Where do animals from??
The deterioration of the planet and the alarming loss of biodiversity has generated the need to change the conservation strategies that must be aimed at protecting, beyond specific species, habitats and entire ecosystems.

At the same time, it is essential to achieve a change in attitude towards the destructive behavior of the human species. In this context, zoos play a fundamental role in safeguarding species and as true platforms for transforming societal behavior , bringing the beauty of nature closer to increasingly detached people, so that they may understand the need to protect it.

Zoological institutions like BIOPARC are part of organizations such as AIZA ( Iberian Association of Zoos and Aquariums ) and EAZA ( European Association of Zoos and Aquariums ), which were created to promote and coordinate species preservation . This prioritizes cooperation among zoological institutions to promote animal welfare and sustainable, genetically viable breeding , as well as to facilitate the sharing of research and scientific knowledge.

Zoological institutions become “ allies of biodiversity ” by creating an open, transparent and participatory “ teamwork ” framework , where animals have no economic value, are not bought or sold, but are exchanged among themselves for the sake of preserving species and the well-being of individuals.

Well-Being welfare
At BIOPARC Valencia, respect for animals and their natural behaviors is prioritized, in this sense, their presence is not instrumentalized, it is not allowed to feed them or invade their spaces or tranquility with our presence or behaviors.

Excellent nutrition , tailored to the needs of the species, diets to ensure optimal nutrition that prioritizes the animal's health , veterinary care (both preventive and curative), veterinary training, and environmental enrichment provide well-being to the animals.

The “room” design of the animals was also carried out to guarantee their well-being, with spaces  Interior and exterior. During the park's opening hours our animals live in the outdoor spaces and, when closed, they enter the interior enclosures, where they spend the night and the coldest hours sheltered. The sheltersare  adapted according to the species. They have systems of calefacción, they have internal outdoor areas with sun and even  swimming pools and aquariums. This allows revisions to be made; separate individuals if necessary (for example a pregnant female); makes it possible to personalize diets (an animal that requires a supplement or special food) and, most importantly, it is the only way to ensure all animals are adequately nourished, that is, everyone eats, not just the “strongest” or “dominant” of the group. It also allows the daily cleaning and conditioning of the outdoor enclosures, which guarantees not only animal well-being and hygiene but also the contemplation of the habitats in all their beauty.

Conservation awareness
BIOPARC Valencia carries out or participates throughout the year in different actions included in conservation campaigns.
They are carried out either by joining global initiatives promoted by other organizations or entities such as the United Nations (UN) or the Iberian Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AIZA), or by carrying out conservation campaigns promoted directly by BIOPARC to draw attention to multiple problems with The main objective of the park is to raise awareness about the need to conserve nature and its rich biodiversity.
Fundación Foundation
The BIOPARC Foundation is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to protect, conserve and offer a future to Nature, through education and emotion.
The Foundation participates in national and international conservation programs, both ex situ (within the parks themselves) and in situ (in the ecosystems of origin), involving people in the preservation of our planet's biodiversity. A first step towards successful conservation is raising awareness about the need to preserve the environment . To achieve this goal, all school visits at BIOPARC Valencia are guided by expert educators who instill in children a love for nature.

A second step would be the reproduction of species in captivity, that is, ex situ conservation . This involves perpetuating captive populations of animal species threatened with extinction, with the aim of safeguarding the species and, if conditions allow, reintroducing individuals into the wild. Between the two parks, we participate in more than 70 captive breeding programs at the European level (EEP or ESB).

Having achieved the first two objectives, the tool that has allowed us to make the leap towards in situ conservation , that is, that which is done in the countries and places where threatened species live or complex ecosystems are protected, is the BIOPARC Foundation , a Foundation created with the purpose of carrying out in situ conservation and dissemination actions at a global level.

In this conservation work, the teaching community plays an active role through the visits you make to BIOPARC Valencia, which allow your students to discover impressive African habitats and species, awakening in them curiosity and respect for nature. The teaching community also collaborates with the BIOPARC Foundation through the donation of 1 euro when requesting the CAD (Annual Teacher Card) , which allows us to continue working in the countries of origin.
